What is liposuction?

Liposuction is the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure. It removes fat from different areas of your body with minimal scarring and no down time. Because fat is taken from selected areas there is no significant weight loss, but changes in your bodies contour offer very dramatic results.

Who benefits most from liposuction?

The body has places where it stores 'slow burning' fat and where it's stored varies from person to person. These bulges of fat give your figure its shape, whether it's an 'hourglass' or a 'pear' figure. Unfortunately, if you don't like these bulges, they can be hard to get rid of. Even with diet and exercise, you will probably lose weight in other areas before you lose those bulges.

Liposuction targets these areas. Once the fat producing cells in those areas are eliminated or reduced in numbers, your body starts storing fat in other areas.

Liposuction does not affect muscle tone or skin tone. If you have hanging arm or stomach skin you are probably a better candidate for an arm lift or tummy tuck. What type of anesthesia is used?

Liposuction can be done under local anesthesia for most areas. For more extensive areas along with other procedures, 'twilight' anesthesia or general anesthesia is administered. All procedures are performed in Dr Fadi Bejjani's AAAHC Accredited Surgery Center.

What is the recovery like?

You will be sore for the first few days following your liposuction surgery and will have some bruising. All of our patients are custom fitted with a special garment following a liposuction procedure.
